Exploring Identity Through Mask Making

In response to Culture Night 2024’s theme of ‘One night for all, this mask making event is a fun and vibrant celebration of identity exploration. Held in the welcome, inclusive space of Outcomers LGBT+ Centre participants will create masks that reflect their unique journeys and reveal aspects of their identity. Participants will be encouraged by artists Shauna Swords to delve deep and use their masks to express aspects of themselves that are often hidden or suppressed. Different facets of the participants personality, experiences and emotions can be represented in this very enjoyable workshop.

A vast array of colourful and diverse materials will be provided including paints, sequins, feathers , fake fur and more, inviting creativity and individuality. Each beautiful and unique mask created will tell a story of courage, pride and the ongoing quest for self-identity. This event not only nurtures fun and creativity but also reinforces the importance of visibility and self-acceptance in the LGBT+ community.
